Like their varsity girls basketball counterparts, the Excelsior Springs varsity boys continue to fight to break a losing skid. The Tigers had dropped four straight and six of their last seven entering Friday night’s road meeting with Grandview. That skid included two Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division losses last week – 58-41 Feb. 7 to visiting Kearney and 75-33 Feb. 10 at Raytown South. Sparked by hot three-point shooting from seniors Colson Moore and Brendan Blackburn, the Tigers dominated the first quarter. A 17-0 Excelsior Springs run helped the Tigers build a 19-2 lead before a threepoint bucket by Kearney with 10 seconds left in the quarter made it 19-5 at quarter’s end. The Bulldogs chipped away at Excelsior Springs’ lead during the second quarter. Kearney flipped the momentum when guard Manny Linthacum sank a three-quarter-court, buzzer-beating trey.
