KANSAS CITY – Win No. 2 of the season eluded the Excelsior Springs varsity boys when they played in the Missouri River Valley Conference Tournament. The Excelsior Springs hoopsters went 0-3 in the tournament at Center High School. Their first loss was Dec. 14 against Warrensburg, 73-27. The teams traded three- and two-point buckets early before Warrensburg took off on an 11-2 run to finish the first quarter. The hot shooting continued during a 26-8 second quarter. Warrensburg led 42-15 at halftime and continued to pull away in the third quarter. Junior Trevor Stanton led Excelsior Springs in scoring with six points. Senior Amani Robinson added five. Other scorers included junior Brendan Blackburn with three points; and senior Trevor Burkman, junior Rakai Gantt, sophomore Jason Starchman and freshman Carson Jackson with two each.
