ES boys stage three-game winning tear
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – From Feb. 10 to 16, the Tigers did something they had not done in varsity boys basketball since the 2012-2013 season: They staged a three-game winning streak.
After snapping a 13-game losing streak Feb. 10 against visiting Harrisonville, the Tigers took out Odessa in a 51-50 thriller Feb. 14 at Excelsior Springs, then topped North Platte 67-59 Feb. 16, also at home. The three victories helped give the Tigers their most wins in a season since 2017- 2018, when they finished 4-22.
Against Odessa, the Tigers took a 3-0 lead when senior Gannon Willis drained a trey from the right corner on Excelsior Springs’ opening possession. The Bulldogs quickly answered with back-to-back three-pointers before junior Rakai Gantt answered with a three of his own from the left corner to knot it at 6.
