ES girls close regular season with ‘W’

Oak Grove ended Excelsior Springs’ latest winning streak Monday in varsity girls soccer – and Excelsior Springs’ season. The Tigers fell to Oak Grove at Boonville in Class 2 District 6 Tournament play. Look for additional coverage of the postseason meeting in the May 24 issue of The Standard. Excelsior Springs had won two straight entering the single-elimination tournament. The Tigers’ most recent win came May 9 on the road against Winnetonka. In getting the 3-0 Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division victory, Excelsior Springs took 25 shots, but finished only two. An own goal by Winnetonka in the 39th minute gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Excelsior Springs scored its other two goals early in the second half. Abby Rash finished a pass from Bailey Carder.
