ES girls drop final three regular-season games

Excelsior Springs was hoping to play for a district title this week in varsity girls basketball. As of this writing, the Tigers were scheduled to play Richmond Wednesday night at St. Pius X of Kansas City in Class 4 District 15 Tournament action, with the winner advancing to play for the district title of the single-elimination tournament at 6 p.m. Friday, also at St. Pius. SMITHVILLE AND OAK GROVE GAME NOTES Excelsior Springs was 8-14 with a three-game losing skid as districts began. Those losses included two games last week – a 65-9 Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division rout Feb. 20 at Smithville and a 3627 defeat Feb. 21 against visiting Oak Grove. Sophomore Josie Casler’s left-side jumper gave the Tigers their first bucket against Smithville. The Warriors took control with a 15-2 first-quarter run.
