ES girls drop first wrestling dual of 2024

At press time, Excelsior Springs was seeking its first dual win of 2024 in girls wrestling. The Tigers opened the new year with a 54-24 loss Jan. 3 at Smithville. The Warriors claimed eight on-the-mat victories in the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division dual, with every win coming by fall. Alyssa Betts got Excelsior Springs’ first win by pinning Skylee Meadows in the 135-pound division. The senior’s pin came during the second period. Analese Happy, a first-year high schooler, notched Excelsior Springs’ other on-the-mat victory, pinning Cali Hatcher in 24 seconds at 110. In other Excelsior Springs results, senior Jaylenn Hudlemeyer dropped the 125 match to Danica Ballard. Firstyear high schooler Pyper Layton lost to Noellie Parrott in the first period at 130. Junior Lauren Park fell to Virginia Myers at 140. Gabby Scrivner, a sophomore, lost to Adalee Pickett in the first period at 145.
