For the second straight season, Excelsior Springs finished .500 or better in varsity girls soccer. The Tigers went 8-8 this season. Their campaign ended with a 2-1 loss to Oak Grove May 13 at Boonville in the opening round of the Class 2 District 6 Tournament. Oak Grove forced Excelsior Springs to play catchup. The Panthers took the opening lead by finishing a corner kick in the 11th minute, then made it 2-0 in the 24th minute. Abby Rash, who graduated May 10 from Excelsior Springs, foiled Oak Grove’s bid for a shutout with her unassisted goal in the 51st minute. Her goal was among nine shots Excelsior Springs put on goal. Allison Armstrong, who also graduated this spring, made 11 saves for the Tigers. The Panthers then lost 5-0 to Moberly May 15 in the semifinals. The Spartans edged Father Tolton Catholic 2-1 May 17 for the district title and will play Logan-Rogersville Saturday in the state quarterfinals. ...
