Excelsior Springs varsity girls basketball coach JD Biermann and his Tigers were looking to reverse course Thursday.The girls were slated to face Van Horn that night. Entering the home meeting with the Independence-based school, Excelsior Springs was 2-4 overall with a three-game losing skid.Those losses occurred last week during the Husker Classic, hosted by Lafayette County of Higginsville. Excelsior Springs fell 49-35 to Oak Grove Dec. 9, 46-45 to Richmond Dec. 12 and 59-31 to Lexington Dec. 13.The Tigers kept pace with Oak Grove for much of the first quarter. The Panthers used a late run to lead 17-10 at quarter’s end.Oak Grove outscored Excelsior Springs 13-6 the second quarter to lead 30-16 at halftime.The Tigers edged the Panthers 10-8 the third quarter.
