ES girls grapplers thump Grandview in road dual
A loss in the opening match couldn’t stop Excelsior Springs from cruising to a 54-18 Jan. 18 road victory over Grandview in girls wrestling.
Justus Sutton, a first-year high schooler at Excelsior Springs, opened the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division dual by falling to Ivonne Lucho at 115 pounds. But then in the 120 match, junior Jaylenn Hudlemeyer took a 3-0 second-period lead on an escape and a takedown before pinning Michel Schreiner that same period to knot it at 6. Junior Alyssa Betts scored a quick takedown and secured a win by fall 38 seconds into her match with Yomara Guitierrez at 125 to make it 12-6 Excelsior Springs. Adrien Crawley, a first-year high schooler, won the final onthe- mat match with a 45-second win by fall over Kalaya Hope-Jackson at 190.
A takedown at 30 seconds into the match paved the way for the win.
Excelsior Springs picked up forfeit wins at 105, 130, 135, 140, 145 and 155 because the Bulldogs were open at those weights.
