ES girls shut out Northeast, then fall to Fort Osage

Last week, Excelsior Springs achieved something rarely seen in basketball: a shutout. The Tigers achieved that feat on Dec. 11, when they crushed Kansas City-based Northeast 58-0 in varsity girls basketball at the Interscholastic Fieldhouse in Kansas City. Sparked by their defense and inside shooting, the Excelsior Springs girls scored 23 first-quarter points. They scored 13 points in the second quarter to lead 36-0 at halftime. They put it away with a 12-point third quarter and a 10-point fourth quarter. Baylee O’Dell led Excelsior Springs’ attack with 17 points. The senior was among three Tigers who finished in double figures. Sophomores Kinley Rogers and Kayden Rogers added 15 and 10 points, respectively. Kinley Rogers also grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double. Other scorers were sophomore Bella Loeffert with eight points, senior Abby Rash with four, and junior Reese O’Dell and sophomore Josie Casler with two each.
