ES girls soccer team goes on tear

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – For roughly two weeks, Excelsior Springs was on a hot streak in varsity girls soccer. Starting with a 1-0 March 31 home win over Center, the girls won four straight. The streak continued April 5 with a 4-1 win at Warrensburg. Sophomore Bailey Carder started the scoring for Excelsior Springs, with an assist coming from sophomore Abby Rash. An own goal by Warrensburg made it 2-0 Excelsior Springs. Rash then scored off an assist from senior Kenzy Smith. Carder scored again on another assist from Rash for Excelsior Springs’ final goal. From April 9 to 13, the crew hosted the Excelsior Springs Tournament, picking up wins over Cameron and Oak Park in the first two rounds before falling to Savannah in the championship game. Rash and Carder each had a hat trick and Smith scored a goal en route to Excelsior Springs’ 7-2 opening-round win over Cameron. The girls then gutted out a 1-0 win over Oak Park.
