ES golfers take sixth at tournament

BLUE SPRINGS – The Tigers had to deal with more than a wet, cold and windy day last week when they played in their first boys golf tournament this season. Playing in the eight-team Oak Grove Tournament, the Tigers also had to deal with the rolling hills and dramatic elevation changes of Adam’s Pointe Golf Course in Blue Springs. They negotiated the course and the weather well enough to shoot a combined 421 and finish sixth. Junior and team captain Ethan Edwards led Excelsior Springs by finishing the par-72 round with a 91 (+19), good enough for a fifth-place medal. Sophomore Ryan Gluhm was the Tigers’ No. 2 golfer with a 103 (+21). Freshman Jacob Schmidt finished with a 110 (+38), followed by sophomore JB Prestia with a 117 and junior Tristan Pekarek shooting a 124. “We are an inexperienced group and it will take time for us to get going, but the more we play, the better we will get,” head coach David Stalder said.
