ES grapplers host triangular, visit Park Hill in action-packed week
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers packed in plenty of matches for their first week of the wrestling season.
The varsity boys opened Dec. 2 by hosting a triangular with Richmond and St. Pius X of Kansas City. Excelsior Springs went 1-1, falling 42-29 to Richmond and cruising past St. Pius X 54-0.
In the opening dual against Richmond, junior Landen Davis picked up the first fall of the season with a 33-second pin of Tristen Nibarger in the 132-pound weight class. Both teams were open at 138. Senior Gunner Zirjacks then defeated Joe Burch by major decision, 8-0, at 145.
Junior Jonah Cowden picked up an open victory at 152, followed by senior Damon Ashworth defeating Aidan Ivison by major decision, 12-4, at 160. Next, senior Clinton McCauley won his 170 match by pinning Mason Covey at 1 minute, 45 seconds into the first period.
