EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers got on a roll in girls varsity tennis. Excelsior Springs posted back-to-back dual wins in less than a week, starting with a 6-3 victory Sept. 8 at Center, a new Missouri River Valley Conference West Division opponent. Sophomore Anna Selby fought her way to a 6-4 win in No. 1 singles. Junior Amanda Mayfield dropped her No. 2 singles match 6-0, but junior Kaylie Como, along with sophomores Nicole Kilgore and Emma Kern, each picked up victories. Como won 6-3, Kilgore triumphed 6-2 and Kern dropped her opponent 6-0. The No. 1 doubles team of Mayfield and senior Lizzy Casey dropped their match 6-0. Selby-Como won 6-4. Kern and Kilgore won the final doubles match 6-0. “I was so happy and proud of the girls as they picked up their first team win of the season,” coach Richie Marsh said. “We started out the last week with four tough matches.” The Tigers also won 6-3 Monday, when they hosted Cameron in a nonconference matchup.
