Four Excelsior Springs boys wrestlers were hoping to have state medals before this week was over.

Ryne Marcum, Cooper Collins, Hunter Scoma and Micah Danner competed in Class 2 state competition, which was slated to begin Wednesday and conclude Thursday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. They qualified for the season-ending tournament by placing in the top four in their respective weight classes at the Class 2 District 4 Tournament, held Feb. 17-18 at Excelsior Springs High School.

Marcum, a sophomore; and Collins, a first-year high schooler, each placed second. Scoma, a sophomore, placed third in the 157-pound weight class. Danner, a junior, took fourth at 126.

Marcum, wrestling at 132; and Collins, wrestling at 113, each went 2-1. Marcum secured his second trip to state with his runner-up finish.
