ES softballers eye 20-win campaign
Excelsior Springs is nearing a 20-win season in varsity softball.Following blowouts of Raytown South and Smithville early this week, the Tigers were 17-8 overall entering Wednesday’s meeting with Fort Osage in Independence. The girls are slated to finish the regular season Oct. 14 against William Chrisman in Independence, then begin Class 3 District 8 Tournament play Oct. 16 against Benton in St. Joseph.The Tigers got two of their 17 wins last week, when they went 2-2. They crushed Winnetonka 13-0 Sept. 30 at Excelsior Springs, lost 5-0 Oct. 1 at Kearney and then went 1-1 in their own tournament, held Oct. 5.Six batters had two-hit games in the rout of Winnetonka.
