ES softballers finish second in tourney
On Oct. 4, Excelsior Springs completed a regular-season sweep in varsity softball – and had to settle for a regular-season split.Playing in their own tournament, the Tigers crushed North Kansas City 21-0. But then, they fell to Lawson 13-3 in six innings in the title game of the four-team tournament. Oak Park, a Kansas Citybased school, completed the field.For Excelsior Springs, the win over Northtown followed a 16-0 win over the Hornets Sept. 9 in Northtown. Tigers coach Megan Gilbertson was pleased with her girls’ performance in the rematch. During the first meeting, “it took us a while to get our bats going,” Gilbertson said.“But then, this game, we faced the same pitcher; and right off the bat, we put up seven runs on them,” she said. “And then, in the next inning after that, it was 14.
