ES softballers get second win before falling to Odessa

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers are no longer a one-win team. By opening and finishing strong, Excelsior Springs picked up win No. 2 in varsity softball this season by defeating Richmond 8-2 Sept. 21 at Southview Park. Senior Emilie Barrera singled to right and advanced to second when junior Jordyn Pekarek reached base on an error. Senior Mayce Barber advanced Barrera and Pekarek on a single to center, and junior Ariana Reynolds drove Barrera in on a single to the shortstop. Junior Aracely Lopez drove in Pekarek on a fielder’s choice, forcing Barber out at third. Then, sophomore Daelyn Williams drove in Reynolds on a double down the right-field line to make it 3-0 Tigers in the first inning. The Spartans scratched a run across in the second, courtesy of a walk, a two-out single and an error. They added another in the third, capitalizing on a one-out hit batter and an error.
