ES softballers go 2-1 to close regular season; fall in districts

Last week, Excelsior Springs’ regular season ended in varsity softball. This week, the Tigers’ season ended. Period. With a 6-0 loss to Belton Tuesday at Miracle Field in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament, the Tigers finished 12-16. The defeat followed a 2-1 record for the final week of the regular season. That week started Oct. 3 with a 19-0 home pounding of Ruskin, a Kansas City-based school. It took just 2 ½ innings to score 19 runs on 13 hits and secure the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division victory. Excelsior Springs exploded for 12 runs in the first inning and seven in the second to get the mercy rule spread. Junior Chloe Carlyle helped power the Tigers, going 2-for-2 with five RBIs. Sophomore Alyssa Dean also collected two hits, including a double, and drove in one run.
