ES softballers pile up runs to close the regular season
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers continued to light up the scoreboard the last week of the varsity softball regular season.
After a 10-game slump that included four losses by shutout, the Tigers closed regular-season play by winning four of their last six and outscoring their opponents 55-37, averaging 10.2 runs per game. They scored 20 runs in their last two games – a 10-8 Oct. 5 loss to visiting Platte County and a 12-0 Oct. 7 road win over St. Teresa’s Academy.
Excelsior Springs and Platte County engaged in a back-and-forth fight. The Pirates tacked up two runs in the top of the first inning. The Tigers answered in the bottom of the first with a run on one hit and three walks.
The Pirates added a run in the top of the second, but the Tigers put up a four spot in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Bailey Carder sparked the inning with a two-out single to center field. Mallory Millsap singled to left to score Carder. Junior Karli ...
