ESHS girls grapplers grab second at Center tourney

KANSAS CITY – Sparked by two individual titles, the Tigers rang out 2021 with a runner-up finish in the team standings of the Center Girls Western Missouri Tournament Dec. 22 at Center High School. Senior Sierra Stodden claimed the 174-pound title. Stodden started with an 8-4 decision over Fort Osage’s Alexcia Fuimaono. She won her next two matches by fall – first over Ruskin’s Anyah Harris, then over Oak Park’s Avery Baxter. She finished with a win by medical forfeit over Center’s Charleigh Harper. Junior Vada Burton took the 130 Junior Vada Burton took the 130 championship, going 3-0. After her first-round bye, Burton defeated Staley’s Savannah Wise and Fort Osage’s Sienna Sullivan, both by fall. She defeated senior teammate Paige Barber by fall in the championship match. Barber began her run to the runner-up spot with a 5-3 decision over Sullivan, then took down Odessa’s Tatum Shipley by fall.
