ESHS XC teams take aim at state
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The Tigers have a lofty goal for their varsity cross country teams this season: They want to send as many runners to state as possible.
A postseason format change by the Missouri State High School Activities Association could help the Tigers achieve that goal. Four teams will qualify for state from their district meet, and 30 individuals will qualify, too.
The boys team has two runners who have qualified for state. Senior Tyler Rumore qualified last season. Junior Gavin Wilmes qualified his freshman year.
The girls team also has two runners who have qualified for state in seniors Jacey Brewer and Macey Chaney. Brewer qualified for state in 2018 but just missed qualifying by three places at last year’s district meet – 15 seconds slower than the final qualifying time. Chaney also qualified in 2018.
