Excelsior Springs alumnus makes up for playing time missed last season

ST. JOSEPH – Excelsior Springs High School graduate Sam Webb is getting the senior season at Missouri Western State University he was denied in 2020 because of a COVID-shortened schedule. The cornerback has played in six games entering the Griffons’ Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association meeting Saturday with Pittsburg (Kansas) State University at Spratt Stadium in St. Joseph. Webb is second on the team in pass breakups with five. His other contributions include 16 total tackles – 14 solo, two assisted. He contributed a pass breakup, a solo tackle and an assisted tackle to Missouri Western’s 57-24 thumping of Northeastern State University Oct. 16 at Spratt Stadium. Webb and his fellow Griffons are 3-4 overall and in the MIAA as they prepare to host Pittsburg State.
