Excelsior Springs falls to Warrensburg in close gridiron clash

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The action Sept. 3 at Tiger Stadium gave Excelsior Springs and Warrensburg fans plenty of reasons to cheer. In the end, however, Warrensburg fans could cheer after handing Excelsior Springs a 33-26 Missouri River Valley Conference West Division loss. Warrensburg jumped out early in the varsity 11-man football clash, scoring on a four-play, 68-yard drive capped by Bryce Schoonover’s 21-yard TD run. An extra-point kick made it 7-0 Warrensburg with 10:20 left in the first quarter. Excelsior Springs looked ready to score after senior Dacey Hall’s 48- yard kickoff return put the local boys at the Warrensburg 47-yard line, but the drive stalled at the Warrensburg 10. Warrensburg capitalized with Schoonover’s 90-yard TD run. The extrapoint attempt failed.
