Excelsior Springs prepares for postseason gridiron play

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – It is the time of year in high school football where teams must win or their season is over. District tournaments start this week. Excelsior Springs will play in the Class 4 District 8 Tournament. The Tigers, 5-2, will open at 7 p.m. Friday against visiting Van Horn of Independence. The Tigers, seeded third, bring an attack that is averaging 31.6 points per game. Defensively, they are allowing 27.5 points per game. Van Horn, 4-5, is averaging 30.3 points per game offensively. Defensively, the sixth-seeded Falcons are yielding 24.5 points per game. Excelsior Springs notched regularseason wins over Savannah, Moberly, Harrisonville, Odessa and Pleasant Hill, and fell to Warrensburg and Oak Grove. Van Horn’s victories came against East of Kansas City; Northeast, also based in Kansas City; Truman of Independence; and Pembroke Hill, a Kansas City-based private school with a roster that includes NCAA Division I gridiron prospect Quinton Conley.
