Excelsior Springs summer youth rec programs draw 200-plus athletes
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The summer recreation season is winding down.
The city is wrapping up its summer T-ball, softball and baseball programs, which included 211 participants ranging from pre-K through the eighth grade. The largest group of participants came through the T-ball program, with 75 players divided among six teams.
In baseball, the grades 1-3 machine pitch division had 53 participants, who were divided into four teams. Coach Jonathan Mawby’s team captured the league title.
Members of Mawby’s team consisted of Charley Mawby, Oliver Fluesmeier, Xavier Dowdy, Duncan Ballard, Jason Chance, Aaron Anderson, Lincoln Brown, Braden Hatcher, Jax Simmons, Juan Figueroa, Lance Yarbrough, Lincoln Myers and Chad Madison.
In softball, the grades 1-3 machine pitch division had 33 players, who were divided into three teams. Coach Nick Eldridge’s team captured the title.
