In 2014, Excelsior Springs played a 13-inning varsity baseball game. In 2023, almost nine years to the day of that 11-10 extra-inning home victory over Pleasant Hill, the Tigers played a varsity baseball game that lasted almost as long. The opponent and the outcome, however, were different. On Monday at Tiger Stadium, Excelsior Springs and Kearney went toe to toe for 12 innings before the Bulldogs claimed a 4-3 Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference-Blue Division victory and ended the Tigers’ four-game winning streak. It was the second longest game in terms of innings the Tigers have played since at least 2009, when the Missouri State High School Activities Association website began posting game-by-game results for the program. The 11-10 win, played on April 28, 2014, remains the longest. “We play seven innings in an hour and 15 minutes, and then, we end up hanging on here for another hour-and-a-half to play a whole other game, basically,” Excelsior Springs coach Aaron Holst said…
