Familiar coach, QB lead Tigers into new division

If Excelsior Springs’ upcoming varsity football season could be summed up in one word, it would probably be familiarity. The Tigers have a familiar face leading them: Mark Faubion, who enters his sixth season as their head coach. And Faubion is bringing back the renowned veer offense the Tigers have become known for running. Running that offense will be returning quarterback Chance Moreland. Moreland, a senior, rushed for more than 1,100 yards in 2021, leading the Tigers to a 7-3 record and the Class 4 District 8 championship game. “It is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to repeat what we did last year,” Moreland said. “We have the challenge of facing teams we haven’t seen before, but if we can carry the momentum over from last season, I think we will be able to handle it well.” The running backs taking handoffs from Moreland will include seniors Rakai Gantt and Tyson Solberg, and sophomor...
