Family, friendship ties bring team together on softball diamond

Playing sports can bring friends and families together, as members of the Pride 14-and-under softball team will attest. The team’s core group is built upon two sets of cousins and local friends who’ve played together for seven seasons. And coach Brian Williams has coached softball long enough that he has coached three sets of moms with daughters on the team. Addi Lingle and Kacen McKillip comprise one set of cousins. Jayden Wilkins and Reese Ryan form the other set. Lingle and Ryan were original team members, along with Bristol Sharp, Haylee Ray and Haleigh Reeves. Kelly Lingle, Kristal Reeves and Leslea McKillip are the proud moms who played for Williams. The three also were part of Excelsior Springs’ 1998 Class 3A state championship team, coached by Terri Irons, a 2022 Excelsior Springs High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductee.
