Faubion sees ‘room for improvement’ in Tigers after jamboree

KANSAS CITY – Excelsior Springs’ Aug. 20 preseason varsity football jamboree at St. Pius X High School in Kansas City gave coach Mark Faubion an idea of where his Tigers stand entering Friday’s season opener. “We executed very well, but we still have a lot of room for improvement,” Faubion said. “We need to shore up a lot of things and tackle better, but that is a firsttime, live contact thing that we know we will get better at.” Excelsior Springs scrimmaged against St. Pius X, Platte County and Pembroke Hill under game-like conditions. They started with the defense taking on St. Pius X’s offense for six plays. The Warriors started on the Excelsior Springs 40-yard line and reached the 1 in five plays. On the sixth play, however, the Tigers stripped the ball and recovered the fumble. Facing St. Pius X’s defense, the Tigers gained two first downs but could not score on their first possession.
