Five grapplers advance to state tournament

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – The field is set for the Class 2 state boys wrestling competition. That field includes five Excelsior Springs grapplers. The fivesome secured their spots at the tournament, slated to run Thursday-Saturday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia, by placing among the top four in their respective weight classes at District 4 competition, held Feb. 11-12 at Excelsior Springs. The Tigers finished districts with one champion, two runners-up, a third-place finisher and a fourth-place finisher. Senior Ayden Dolt was the champion, cruising to his second consecutive district title by going undefeated in the 152-pound class. Dolt secured three wins by fall, starting with a 34-second win over Savannah’s Lincoln LaFave. He then took care of Oak Grove’s Alex Whitehead in 45 seconds and finished by pinning Pleasant Hill’s Ryan Volland in 1:30. Dolt is making his fourth trip to state. He qualified twice in Class 4 ...
