Five ES runners set p.r.’s as Tigers scout out state cross country course
COLUMBIA – The Excelsior Springs cross country teams got a preview of the state course Sept. 25, when they took their annual trip to Columbia to compete in the Gans Creek Classic Invitational.
The Excelsior Springs girls started their 3.1-mile race in the fog. Literally.
Despite limited vision when the race began, two runners set personal records: seniors Macey Chaney and Breanna Williams. Chaney finished in 22 minutes, 48.4 seconds. Williams finished in 29:22.3.
Senior Jacey Brewer, however, was the team’s top finisher, placing 36th in 21:52.9. Chaney’s performance put her in 53rd place. Senior Ava Ishmael finished 101st in 24:13.2. Senior Lacey Miller was 170th, finishing in 26:24.1. Williams’ personal-best time put her in 209th.
The boys team got personal records from senior Tyler Rumore, sophomore Mason Wartner and junior Damien McDade.
