Lilly Goetz nearly brought home a championship medal from the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference Tournament.The Excelsior Springs first-year high schooler took second in the 120-pound division at the Jan. 18 competition, hosted by Staley High School in Kansas City. In doing so, she helped Excelsior Springs finish 10th among 23 schools with 82 points – one point behind ninth-place Winnetonka.Goetz went 3-1 in securing her runnerup finish. She pinned Blue Springs’ Peytyn Conard, North Kansas City’s Sophie Horton and Staley’s A’Shay White to win her first three matches, then got pinned in the finals by Kearney’s Riley Walker.Goetz was among three Excelsior Springs medalists.
