Lilly Goetz will soon experience what it’s like to wrestle in a state high school tournament.Goetz, an Excelsior Springs freshman, will compete at Class 1 state girls competition, slated for Feb. 26-27 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. She qualified by placing second in the 120-pound weight class at the Class 1 District 4 Tournament, held Feb. 14-15 at Kearney. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association regulations, the top four finishers in each weight class qualified.Seeded fourth and awarded a first-round bye, Goetz reached the winner’s bracket quarterfinals by pinning Gallatin’s Aliza Wright in the first period during the second round.Goetz overcame a 3-0 first-period deficit to defeat Mid-Buchanan’s Molly Meehan with a 4-3 decision in the semifinals.
