Grapplers host tri, tourney
The Excelsior Springs girls wrestling team got to stay in its home gym last week.
On Dec. 5, the girls hosted Cameron and Pleasant Hill in a triangular, going 1-1. Then, on Dec. 8, they hosted their annual tournament.
The Tigers defeated Pleasant Hill 48-24 and fell to Cameron 54-24 in the triangular. Kenya Reberry opened against Pleasant Hill with a first-period pin of Jayda Morris at 110 pounds. Jaylenn Hudlemeyer won by fall at 125 against Amiah Peterson. Pyper Layton won by pin against Antonia Antov.
Excelsior Springs got two wins by fall
against Cameron, with Bailee Baxter pinning Payton Steeby at 155. Adrien Crawley pinned Madycen Hedgpeth at 190.
The Excelsior Springs girls produced one champion and four runners-up in their own tournament.
