EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – In varsity girls basketball, the Tigers went from a comeback victory to double-digit losses within a few days last week. The comeback victory, a 52-49 thriller, took place Jan. 18 at home against Pleasant Hill in Missouri River Valley Conference West Division play. A hot start for the Tigers allowed them to lead 15-9 after one quarter. The Chicks, however, outscored the Tigers 20-18 the second quarter to lead 29-27 at halftime. Pleasant Hill then edged Excelsior Springs 12-10 the third quarter. Pleasant Hill’s lead grew to 10 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Tigers rallied, with senior Mallory Millsap making a layup to give Excelsior Springs the lead with 16 seconds to play. Freshman Madeline Andreason’s two late free throws sealed the three-point win. Excelsior Springs had three players score in double figures. Senior Elise Gish led the way with 12 points.
