Irons ‘proud’ to join ESHS Athletic HOF
Former coach Terri Irons is prepared to make her Excelsior Springs Athletic Hall of Fame induction speech.
Sort of.
“I (have) jotted down some notes. Does that count?” Irons asked facetiously, speaking Monday by phone from the Excelsior Springs Golf Course, where she works part time.
Irons, a Hall of Fame Committee founder, will be inducted as a softball and volleyball coach with the class of 2022 during a ceremony slated to start at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Performing Arts Center. Her achievements during her 29-year career, counting her stint student teaching, included leading the Tigers to a 1998 state title and a 1997 state runner-up finish, both in Class 3A softball.
“I’m proud of it,” she said. “It’s an honor. … Every year …, you try to find the people that have been involved the most – or athletes that have made an impact. And so, when your peers feel like you are worthy of it, it’s always a huge honor.”
