Knuckleheadz take age-group title at Boo Bash

DUSTIN DANNER Sports Reporter Recently, an Excelsior Springs-based club sports team gave itself a Halloween treat of sorts. The Knuckleheadz, a 16-and-under baseball team, won their division championship at the KC Sports Boo Bash, a tournament with a Halloween theme that took place Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at the Capitol Federal Sports Complex of Liberty. The ballclub went 4-1 for the weekend, dropping the first game and then avenging that loss in the championship game. “Our pitching was outstanding the entire tournament and we had one big inning each game, and those were the keys to winning the tournament,” coach Stephen Crowley said. The tournament was among three the Knuckleheadz have played in this fall. Consisting of sophomores and juniors looking to continue to develop their baseball skills, the Knuckleheadz’s roster includes eight Excelsior Springs players.
