Tigers use 15-run second to maul Panthers
EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – At times, the big inning has crippled the Tigers this varsity baseball season.
On April 6, however, it was a big second inning that propelled Excelsior Springs to an 18-3 victory over Oak Grove.
The Tigers scored a run in the first, then exploded for 15 runs in the second to run away with the Missouri River Valley Conference West Division meeting. The inning started with sophomore catcher Mason Danner drawing a walk, followed by freshman courtesy runner Micah Danner advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Chandler Lindaman and junior right fielder Seth Barton launching a two-run home run over the left-field fence.
Freshman third baseman Brayden Lewis followed by tripling to center field and scoring on senior Matthew Smith’s triple to center. Smith came in on a ground out by sophomore Brenda Blackburn.
