Marsh, Collins lead young ES boys netters onto courts

For the past three seasons, the Excelsior Springs varsity tennis team has relied on a familiar roster. That changes this spring. Coach Richie Marsh returns only one player with extensive varsity experience – Austin Collins. The Tigers lost nine players to graduation. The lack of varsity experience might show early in the season, Marsh acknowledged. But he expects his Tigers to continually improve throughout the season. “I know they will hustle after everything and effort will never be a concern, and we are expecting to compete more and more as the season progresses,” he said. Collins, a junior, will lead the Tigers as their No. 1 singles player. His role follows a sophomore season in which he played in the second and third positions. Theo Stuhrmann, an international exchange student, will start at No. 2 singles. He and Collins also will comprise Excelsior Springs’ No. 1 doubles team.
