Of the changes Excelsior Springs is experiencing this season in varsity football following the graduation of a large of group of players this spring, the biggest might be at quarterback. Coach Mark Faubion has chosen Marquez McCant to succeed Chance Moreland as signal-caller. McCant, a sophomore, “is a fast and agile guy (who) has become the for-sure guy for us at quarterback this fall,” Faubion said. In leading Excelsior Springs’ optionstyle offense, the young quarterback will be expected to take on a team leadership role. McCant is comfortable about taking on “the bigger role of being able to lead my team and be a role model going into the season,” he said. McCant is among several new names expected to fill the voids left by the recent graduating class. Some of those names have yet to be determined, Faubion suggested. “All of our positions will be up for grabs throughout the season,” Faubion said. “We have so many young kids who did not see much playing time last season.” But…
