For the second straight season, Excelsior Springs is a district runner-up in girls tennis.The Tigers placed second in the Class 1 District 8 Tournament, which wrapped Oct. 16 in St. Joseph. They placed second in the Class 1 District 14 Tournament in 2023.Excelsior Springs’ journey to its latest runner-up finish started with a 5-0 drubbing of St. Joseph Lafayette Oct. 14. In doubles, seniors Shelby Stodden and Malaya Tedesco won 8-3, sophomore Laney Smith and senior Megan Riegel cruised 8-2, and senior Lily Long and sophomore Ananya Carrel won 8-1. Tedesco, Smith and Long each picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles to stop play. The Tigers then edged Chillicothe 5-3 Oct. 15 in the district semifinals.
