Netters split two duals, claim three tourney medals
Excelsior Springs had little time to relax between competitions last week in varsity boys tennis.
The Tigers crammed two duals and their own tournament into three days, splitting the duals, and claiming a firstplace medal and two third-place medals at the tournament.
The schedule started April 11 with a 7-2 home loss to North Kansas City. Senior Carter Pitts won in the No. 1 singles match 8-4. Sophomore Austin Collins picked up Excelsior Springs’ other victory, also 8-4.
On April 12, Collins then fought his way through the B-flight singles to take first place at the Excelsior Springs Varsity Invitational. Pitts worked through the A-flight singles bracket to finish third. Senior Nolan Greim and sophomore Grayson Grove took third in the C-flight doubles bracket.
Excelsior Springs followed up the tournament on April 13 by crushing visiting Benton of St. Joseph 9-0.
