Excelsior Springs opens with combined no-hit win; club eyes district repeat
During his tenure as Excelsior Springs varsity baseball coach, Aaron Holst has guided the Tigers through a few no-hitters, including their 1-0 seasonopening win March 17 over visiting William Chrisman.
The latest one, however, was different: It was a combined no-hitter.
“I don’t think we’ve ever done the combined thing,” Holst said. “I think it’s always been a solo effort.”
And based on Holst’s estimate, it had “probably been a good 10 years” since the previous no-hitter.
“(We’ve) been close,” he said. “Had a one- or twohitter sprinkled in there, but no-hitters are pretty elusive.”
Colson Moore, Brayden Lewis and Brendan Blackburn threw the combined no-no against Chrisman, an Independence-based, Class 6 school. Moore struck out three Bears and walked two through three innings.
