O-fer second quarter hurts ES girls in home defeat

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS – Take away the second quarter and the Tigers win their Feb. 10 Missouri River Valley Conference West Division varsity girls basketball meeting with visiting Harrisonville, instead of losing 41-27. With senior Mallory Millsap sinking a two-point bucket and a free throw, and Rylie Stottlemyre scoring four points, Excelsior Springs trailed 9-7 after one quarter. But then, the Tigers went on a nearly 12-minute scoring drought from the remainder of the first quarter until early in the third quarter, including a 16-0 second quarter. Stottlemyre and Millsap put Excelsior Springs on the board again in the third quarter, with the two combining for seven points once again. The Tigers held the Wildcats to four points, making it 29-14 Harrisonville entering the final quarter. Excelsior Springs edged Harrisonville 13-12 the fourth quarter.
