Oldham signs to bowl, study at Avila
The Excelsior Springs High School club bowling team is sending its first team member to compete in college.
Joshua Oldham recently signed his letter of intent to bowl and study at Avila University in Kansas City. He chose the private Catholic school over opportunities to attend Wichita (Kan.) State University, St. Ambrose University and St. Mary’s College.
“Avila has an amazing business administration department and a really strong bowling team and I want to be a part of those,” Oldham said.
In moving from Excelsior Springs to Avila, Oldham sees the competition level as the biggest challenge he’ll face.
“Bowling is an ever-growing sport and people are just getting better and better and you can’t let yourself get in a comfort zone,” he said.
Oldham’s decision is part of an eightyear bowling career that started at Tiger Bowl in Excelsior Springs, where he met Jerry Ferrell, his coach and mentor.
