Excelsior Springs varsity baseball coach Aaron Holst and his Tigers were eying a third straight district title at press time. The Tigers, who won back-to-back Class 4 District 15 titles in 2022 and 2023, were set to face Oak Grove for the Class 4 District 13 title Thursday at Excelsior Springs. Oak Grove set up the championship clash by defeating Odessa Tuesday, also at Excelsior Springs. Excelsior Springs had to rally twice Tuesday for a 4-3 home win over Marshall for its latest title shot. The Owls went up 1-0 in the third inning. The Tigers took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Marshall reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fifth. Kaelan Bedford scored on a balk and Kota Triplett scored on Cruz Lloyd’s base hit in the sixth for Excelsior Springs’ final runs.
