Brewer, Burton Columbia-bound
KANSAS CITY – Two girls will represent Excelsior Springs next weekend in state wrestling competition.
Senior Jacey Brewer and junior Vada Burton both placed second at last weekend’s District 4 Tournament at Oak Park High School to punch their respective tickets to the girls state tournament at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. Brewer advanced in the 125-pound weight class. Burton advanced at 130.
Both girls are making their first appearance at state.
Brewer’s tournament started by pinning Stanberry’s Katlyn James in 58 seconds, followed by a pin of Kansas City East’s Janet Filla in 29 seconds. In the quarterfinals, she won by pinning Fort Osage’s Allison Kramer in the second period. She secured her trip to state with an 8-2 decision over Lawson’s Josie Brian in the semifinals. Brewer ended with a loss by fall in the championship match to top-seeded Madison Leverknight of Winnetonka.
