Quartet helps Lumberjacks take 2nd at Elite World Series

MELBOURNE, Florida – A foursome of future Excelsior Springs High School varsity baseball players brought home a second-place finish last week from the Elite World Series at the Space Coast Sports Complex. Incoming freshmen Klayton Glaspy, Ryne Marcum and Hunter Scoma, along with eighth-grader Cooper Collins, play for the 14-and-under Lumberjacks major-level baseball team. Glaspy primarily plays infield and pitches. Collins and Marcum patrol the outfield for the Lumberjacks most of the time. Scoma spends most of his innings at catcher. Coached by Excelsior Springs alums Shaun Marcum, Scott Collins, Barry Scoma, and Joe Jones from Lawson, the team was formed in 2016 as a group of 9-year-olds, with much of the team’s nucleus staying together.
