Rainy road trip evokes memories of film classic

When staffer and Excelsior Springs High School alumna Miranda Jamison (a.k.a., “MJ”) and I made a July 29 trek to St. Joseph, we didn’t expect to find ourselves in a situation that seemed like something out of the film version of “The Wizard of Oz.” It was sunny and hot when MJ and I parked that morning near Spratt Stadium at Missouri Western State University to cover the Kansas City Chiefs at training camp. It was still sunny and muggy when we recorded a video to share with followers on the TikTok account for the Richmond News, The Standard’s sister newspaper. And when we trekked from the Spratt Stadium parking lot to the Blum Union building to check in and get our media wrist bands. And when we trekked from the student union back to the parking lot to catch a media shuttle to enter the training camp space. And when we reached the media tent.
